The Cortez Police Department is investigating a body that was found in a boat in the 400 block of S. Ash St. on Saturday.

The owner of the boat was taking out his trash when he noticed a tear in the boat’s cover, said Police Chief Roy Lane.

The resident went over to look at the tear when he discovered the dead man and called police.

The man appears to have been in the boat for a while, Lane said.

The police are not releasing the dead man’s name at this time or the suspected cause of death. However, he is known to police.

“It doesn’t appear at this point in time to be anything suspicious,” Lane said.

An autopsy is scheduled for Thursday, and the police plan to release more information at that time.
