Groomed ski trails hits a snag in Dolores

Saturday was a disappointing day for town officials and cross country skiing enthusiasts. The Town of Dolores was recently gifted a snowmobile and equipment to drag behind the snowmobile that will groom a cross country ski track. The snowmobile was given to the town by the folks at the Chicken Creek Ski area near Mancos.

When the snow started falling, town officials were ready to lay in the track. But the snowmobile had other plans.

Town Manager Ryan Mahoney said the snowmobile caught fire shortly after the machine took one loop around Joe Rowell Park Saturday morning.

The fire department was called.

The snowmobile did not make it.

But for those of you that love to ski, there are still tracks at the park, and around the lake, put in the old fashioned way - by skiing.

I'm also told that the skiing up at Boggy Draw was great this week.

I was told this week that the Dolores Public Library is changing its hours starting at the beginning of the year. The library will close one hour earlier on Thursdays and stay open one hour later on Fridays.

The big pile of dirt at Joe Rowell Park that will be used to make the BMX pump track in the spring at Joe Rowell Park (behind the playground) make a great sledding hill for the little ones, I am told.
